"Friends"
A couple days ago, I listened to Wake the World: The Friends Sessions. Last night, I figured out the saxophone part in the middle section of "Friends" (from roughly 1:04 to 1:20), and later, I had a small realization about the line "We've been together through the good times and the tears" near the beginning of the song. The phrase "through the good times" ascends (Eb F G G) while "and the tears" descends (G F Eb), so these melodic arcs represent the general mood of each (happy ascent and sad descent) and also highlight the contrast between them.
